It is using a physical phenomenon known as Flash Joule Heating (FJH) that can enhance the process of metal recovery by speeding up the process and lowering the energy inputs involved.

On 13 September 2024 we spoke to Michael Walshe, CEO of MTM Critical Metals (ASX: MTM) about the multiple ways in which its Flash Joule Heating can be used and the enormous commercial potential it sees in being able to markedly cut the price of lithium and rare earths production. We also talked about the provenance of the technology in the Rice University laboratory of Professor James Tour.
